Bradken Foundry

Return to Policies

When they look out their windows at the spires of the Bradken foundry polluting the local atmosphere, it is easy for Kilburn residents to believe that their Government just doesn’t care.

Despite years of raising their concerns of adverse health effects and soil and rain water contamination, residents were told late in 2007 that the Bradken foundry will be allowed to increase production by expansion. While Bradken, as part of its approval, will be required to improve upon the current level of pollution, the foundry will continue to pollute and for those who attend the school or live literally metres away, this outcome is unacceptable.

Ann believes the best solution would be to move the foundry away from families to the more suitable cast metals precinct at Wingfield or, failing to do this have the affected residents, many of whom are Housing Trust tenants, relocated at Bradken’s expense.
